A Play in Two Acts
I began interviewing the Human Trafficking Team at Scotland Yard as I wanted to write something about trafficking. I spent a lot of time with the different detectives and went along on some assignments when they were doing surveillance. The play came out of the stories of rescue they told me about during our time and interviews I did with a prosecutor at the Inns of Court and a head of a NGO for trafficked women.
The play uses 8 actors to perform 27 roles and the stories and concept of working through the journeys of the victims is fluid and uses dance and music as well. There are many facets to trafficking that people don’t understand and know about which is why I chose to tell a group of stories. That the stories are stories of rescue, for me, gives hope and shows that saving one life is where we have to start for change.
